Fantastic cast aluminum sculpture by Eugene, OR professor of art and sculptor Jan Zach (1914-1986). Jan was a multi-medium sculptor working in wood, cast iron, aluminum and stainless steel. Jan was born in Czeschoslovakia but due to the Nazi take over of his home country in 1938 he never returned. He ended up immigrating to Brazil and at the time was working in painting. He met his wife Judith there and then in 1951 they moved back to her hometown in Canada. In 1958 he was offered a position at the University of Oregon to teach sculpture. He retired from the University sometime in the 1970s.
The work is not dated or signed but comes directly from his estate. He was not known to be great about signing his works. Mounted on a artist made base.
