An abstract oil on paper painting by French/Romanian artist Horia Damian (1922-2012) in a beautiful handmade frame by Robert Kulicke (1924-2007). Horia is well regarded and collected for this type of abstract work and it is seldom seen here stateside. Robert Kulicke frames are almost as desirable as the art themselves, as he was a master frame maker and also an innovator of frame designs having done work for Knoll and the MoMA in the 1950’s.
The original Kulicke frame has been untouched and is masterfully crafted. It is constructed out of walnut with walnut dovetail splines in the corners of the frames. The front surface is silver gilted. Some minor flea bites to the front. The painting is in beautiful condition and has been newly rematted onto a Belgian linen backer and put under UV resistant museum glass.
